Ever since I read Shadow Divers, I've thought John Chatterton was an extraordinary human being. Since then, I've subscribed to the Deep Sea Detective mailing list and check in on his blog every so often. After reading about his trip to Minnesota to speak at Matt Johnston's Diving a Dream fundraiser (he spoke at the event and had dinner at Matt's house), I thought even higher of him (helping out another person rates higher than courageous exploratin in my book).
I don't write to celebraties very often (oh, ever, I've never written a fan letter or anything) but was compelled to tell Mr. Chatterton that he was a credit to the human race in general and the diving community in particular. I was even more surprised when he returned the email promptly. I hope the ratings for DSD are high for both him and me, keep him employed and me watching more dive programming on TV!
Just another reason why I'm proud to be a diver.
