George Purifoy passed away on Sept. 14, 2008.

The staff of Scuba Diving Magazine is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of George G. Purifoy, owner of Olympus Dive Center and North Carolina wreck diving pioneer. We would like to extend our condolences to the entire Purifoy family as well as the North Carolina wreck diving community.

"Olympus Dive Center is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved owner and the captain of the Olympus, George Purifoy on Sept. 14, 2008. George was a pioneer in North Carolina Wreck Diving and his life has touched many. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time."
