Coral Reef Spawning & Conservation Program
Hosted by Whale Shark & Oceanic Research Center
The Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center invites participants to join them for the Coral Reef Conservation Program. This week is set to take place at the end of August and early September to provide the best possible chance of coinciding with the spectacular annual coral spawning event that occurs on the fringing reefs surrounding Utila. This week will consist of a series of interactive lectures and workshops covering various aspects of coral reef ecology and conservation, and dives to experience first hand the wonder of nightlife on the reef. Participants will take part in reef health surveys, and learn how to identify the myriad of fish species that are found in the Bay Islands. There will also be the opportunity to conduct fish surveys and contribute to a global sightings database. All activities and lectures will be run our resident marine biologists at WSORC.
