The 7th Annual Ocean-Festival Dive & Adventure Sports Expo, formerly OceanFest, will take place in a new, bigger venue on Fort Lauderdale Beach from May 14 - 16, 2004. The largest and most successful consumer dive show in Florida is expanding this year to offer water and adventure sports exhibits in addition to its mainstay dive-related offerings.
A highlight of this weekend-long celebration of the sea is a Dive Trade Show with more than 200 exhibitors from all areas of diving and its related industries, who will be on hand to display, demonstrate and discuss the latest equipment, dive destinations, accessories and much more. Attendees can shore dive and boat dive as well as participate in the festival's annual underwater photo contest and treasure hunt.
In an effort to introduce the sport to new enthusiasts, introductory scuba, snorkeling and SASY courses will be taught free at the DEMA Pool Pavilion. Free seminars including travel destinations, coral & reef identification, underwater photography, technical diving and more will be available. An underwater treasure hunt will be held Saturday for dive boats and Sunday for shore divers. There will also be an underwater photo contest. More than $20,000 in prizes has been donated for the various contests and raffles.
In addition to the dive exhibits, this year's event will feature family activities including a rock climbing attraction, live entertainment with reggae, jazz, rock and calypso music, beach parties and food vendors, featuring Bahamian and Caribbean style delicacies and seafood.
The event's new venue is the Municipal Parking Lot, ideally situated on Fort Lauderdale Beach, just North of the Fort Lauderdale Sheraton Yankee Clipper and across the street from the Day's Inn Bahia Cabana Resort and the Radisson Bahia Mar Hotel & Marina.
