Project AWARE Foundation Launches Ocean Action Project

Project AWARE's Ocean Action

The search is on. Project AWARE Foundation is looking for innovative and results-driven projects to address two key focus areas: tackling marine debris problems and protecting critical shark and ray species.

With increasing threats facing our ocean planet, working globally and acting locally has never been so important. To empower ocean communities to take local conservation actions to a whole new level of change, Project AWARE has launched Ocean Action Project 2013.

The Ocean Action Project supports local ocean conservation initiatives that bring us a step closer to a clean, healthy and abundant ocean planet.

“Concentrated efforts are needed at all levels — from the local community to the halls of government — to make the lasting changes so desperately needed,” says Alex Earl, Project AWARE Foundation’s Executive Director. “As a movement-driven organization, we know that strong grassroots actions, together with Project AWARE’s ocean policy work, are building a strong wave for ocean protection.”

Project AWARE Foundation is interested in supporting work that is action-oriented and strategically addresses root causes of marine debris or shark and ray protection issues. These projects should be measurable, with an approach for change.

“Ocean activists around the world are taking action. This new initiative provides support to community partners helping find solutions to local ocean issues,” says Alex.

To view the Ocean Action Project 2013 guidelines and application, visit www.projectaware.org/OceanActionProject. Completed applications must be received by Project AWARE by 31st October 2013. Project AWARE will select the most promising project proposals and let the supporters and community cast the final vote this November.

Project AWARE Foundation is a global movement of scuba divers protecting our ocean planet — one dive at a time. Focused on the critical issues of Sharks in Peril and Marine Debris, Project AWARE empowers thousands of divers in more than 180 countries to work together for a clean, healthy and abundant ocean planet. Project AWARE Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization.
