I admit it, I am easily excitable; give me a cookie and I’ll be your friend for life. Put me in the water with a camera and my excitement levels rise to near nuclear. That’s why I nearly fell out of my seat and did a jig when my editor told me I was going to Backscatter Underwater Video and Photo’s Digital Shootout at the Little Cayman Beach Resort, June 16-23, 2012.

This event is the ULTIMATE summer camp for big kids; seven days of non-stop awesome with people as passionate about underwater photography as I am. The schedule: Two dives per day with the entire staff of Backscatter there to help you at the drop of a hat, plus all the underwater photography seminars you can handle each afternoon and a slide/video show after dinner. It’s the kind of stuff this photo editor dreams about.

Not a pro? No worries! Photographers of all levels are welcome to this beginner-friendly photo playground. And the best part? Well, besides the whole diving on Bloody Bay wall in crystal clear water in the middle of June thing — Backscatter holds a photo contest at the end of the week with $50,000 worth of prizes.

I recorded my experiences, and below, you can read a daily blog of this fantastic week-long learning and diving experience. For more info, visit thedigitalshootout.com.
