Video of Humboldt Squid Attack on Diver

Usually the phrases "monster squid" or "squid-infested waters" are enough to deter even the bravest scuba divers. But not diver Scott Cassell on Animal Planet, who was videotaped in this life-and-death battle with a Humboldt squid in the waters off La Paz, Mexico.

It's a crazy/amazing/horrifying video to watch. But we got a little queasy when Cassell cries out after his eardrum explodes. Shortly after that, the squid bites his wrist, breaking it in five places. That was about the time we turned off the video and decided against calamari for our New Year's Eve celebration menu.

You can watch more critter encounters at Animal Planet's official website.
