During my summer holiday to Tenerife I stumbled upon a brand new dive centre called Sol Scuba. They are based in a hotel complex called Club Marino in Costa Silencio, in the south of Tenerife. I had no idea that Tenerife was such a great diving destination, in fact I had visited Tenerife with the sole intention of spending time relaxing with the family! All that changed when I discovered Sol Scuba and ended up spending a week diving with them!
Sol Scuba market themselves as the friendliest dive centre in Tenerife and in my opinion they most certainly are! Tim is the owner and he made us all feel so welcome, regardless of the fact that my partner is a non-diver. My partner was included too and even given a snorkel and mask to use and accompanied me on each dive, getting to spend some time on different beaches snorkelling, free of charge! This worked well for me as it gave me time to indulge my scuba passion and ensured that she wasn't left out.
Tim goes that extra mile to make your diving experiences in Tenerife, tailor made and memorable. Tim's knowledge of the area is second to none and all the dives were small groups and on occasion one to one. This meant that the dives were personalised to suit me and Sol Scuba's flexible attitude, allowed me to choose the days and times which in turn gave me the freedom to enjoy my holiday even more!
The diving was absolutely fantastic especially when I dived with Greenback Turtles. I also had the opportunity to dive with Rays, Octopus, plenty of colourful sub-tropical fish and even an Angel Shark!. The Turtles were the highlight of week, they were incredible and so tame, they came up so close you could actually touch them! We also dived a wreck site, marine conservation area and a undisturbed site, apparently discovered and only known by Sol Scuba, this site had the most incredible swim-throughs and blow holes. There is so much to see underwater in Tenerife: Coral, Caves and the underwater volcanic formations are stunning! We did one boat dive during the week and the remainder were shore dives which was great for me as I get sea sick and it seems most of the dives are easily accessible by shore. The water was 23-24 degrees and visibility on every dive was excellent.
It was so great to dive with people who had my best intentions at heart, the time and trouble that they took to ensure that I was comfortable and happy was quite incredible. It was refreshing to dive with a centre that is not a "dive factory" and one that will stop at nothing to ensure that you have the best diving experience possible. The dive centre has recently opened and has all brand new kit and equipment that is maintained to an excellent standard. The dive prices are very reasonable and there are no hidden extras. Sol Scuba arrange collection from any hotel in the south of Tenerife free of charge and although I did not stay in the Hotel Club Marino where sol Scuba is based, the hotel looks fantastic and will be next on my list of places to stay. Sol Scuba have an on site swimming pool, which is great to practise any skills and they have all the facilities you can expect, including a terrace overlooking the pool, which was a great place to fill out the log book and relax during surface intervals!
Tenerife is a lovely destination with many places of interest and plenty to do for the non-diver. Flying time from the UK is 4 hours and the year round temperature also makes Tenerife a great winter destination too. If you find yourself visiting the island of Tenerife, give Sol Scuba a call. I cannot sing their praises enough and I would not even consider going anywhere else!
