The elegant solid bronze mermaid stands 2.75 meters tall. Beneath the water she looks even larger. The marine life, also, looks bigger than life at Mermaid Cove. The romantic idea of the underwater mermaid statue was conceived by Jodi Willoughby when her husband, Jim, provided a wetsuit for the model of sculptor Elek Imredy. In 1970, Imredy created the "Girl in a WetSuit" bronze statue that sits on a rock off Stanley Park in Vancouver B.C. The "Emerald Princess" was completed by scuba diver/sculptor Simon Morris and sunk in Saltery Bay in 1989. This is the "sister" statue to the famous mermaid in the Grand Cayman Islands. This is my 13 year old daughter's favorite dive site.
