Features:

  • 500-denier Armor Cordura construction
  • Upgraded SureLock™ II integrated-weight system
  • Backpack with built-in anti-tank-slip traction pad
  • Molded carry/lift handle
  • Available in six sizes
  • Substantial lift capacity in larger sizes
  • Less than 1 pound of inherent buoyancy

Performance:

The Pro LT is built a little lighter than the Pro QD and offers fewer bells and whistles, but when it comes to performance, this BC is no slouch. It matched scores with the Pro QD in all ergo categories but Comfort, due mostly to a little less padding and the non-depth-compensating cummerbund. But during our in-water tests, when it came to stability, ascent control, the ease and efficiency of the valve system and, of course, the SureLock II weight ditch system, the Pro LT kept right up with its plushier big brother. The Pro LT is available in one less size than the Pro QD, its big user-friendly cargo pockets have only single-pull instead of double-pull zippered closures and its four stainless-steel D-rings are flat-stamped. It does, however, offer roomy sleeves behind each cargo pocket to stow a console and an octopus, and it comes with grommets for attaching a knife.

Bottom Line:

The Pro LT is not quite as plush as the Pro QD and doesn’t offer some of the goodies. On the other hand, it’s more than one pound lighter, $100 cheaper and you don’t lose even a penny’s worth of performance.

General-Purpose BCs
---
While they can be used for any type of diving, general purpose BCs are designed primarily for temperate- and/or cold-water diving with 7mm wetsuits or drysuits. General Purpose BCs tend to offer lots of buoyant lift across their size ranges along with heavy-load integrated weight systems. They often have large cargo pockets and larger D-rings for attaching additional gear.

Travel BCs
---
Travel BCs are lighter and more compact than General Purpose BCs. Many are designed to fold or stow in handy storage pouches for easy globe-trotting. Travel BCs tend to offer less buoyant-lift capacity and smaller weight pouches to suit warm-water diving scenarios.

Women's BCs
---
Women are shaped differently than men, so it makes sense that a women’s BC would be shaped differently too. Women’s BCs are often cut higher along the waist and are more expansive in the chest area. Straps and adjustments accommodate shorter, narrower torsos, and power inflators are ultracompact to fit comfortably into smaller hands.
