2010 ScubaLab Testers' ChoiceThe Pro Plus 2.1 is an updated version of Oceanic’s venerable Pro Plus 2, offering twice the download memory and cylinder pressure with every sample point on its dive history. This console-style data cruncher has a huge screen with data digits sized and situated on the screen so that they are easy to see and understand at a glance. And with its prominent green-yellow-red bar graphs, it’s arguably the most intuitive and user-friendly DC around for tracking N2 and O2 loading as well as ascent rate and remaining air time. The Pro Plus 2.1 offers four dive-mode screens; however, the majority of dive data and all important data is found on the primary screen. There are a bevy of alarms and an onboard simulator that incorporates your personal air-consumption rate.

Bottom Line

For recreational divers who like air integration and don’t need more than single-gas capability, you can’t find a more user-friendly and easy-to-use data cruncher than the liberal-leaning Pro Plus 2.1. It has no safety settings to increase conservatism, but the nitrogen-loading bar graph makes it easy to build in a safety cushion of your own.
