Our Best Buy for 2011, the Magnum delivered excellent work-of-breathing scores on the ANSTI simulation tests on all but the most demand- ing RMV/depth loops. The reg’s first stage features Sherwood’s patented Dry Air Bleed System, which keeps the interior clean and dry, and provides stable output pressure. The Magnum’s second stage, which received very good scores in comfort, is a compact design that reduces drag. While it offered very good breathing in most positions, the Mag-num breathed damp on occasion with divers in the different diving positions. Testers gave the purge system and venturi lever excellent scores.
BOTTOM LINE
Priced at the low end of the category, the Magnum performs as well or better than more-expensive regs.
