The Best Dive Music Playlist for Your Next Scuba Adventure

Looking for the perfect song to accompany your next diving adventure? We've got a whole list of the tracks from artists like The Vaccines, Bassnectar, The John Butler Trio and Dio. Whether you want epic, fun or chill, this list has you set from boat-ride out to boat-ride back in.

The Boat-Ride Out

"Wetsuit" by The Vaccines

It's like an invite to the perfect dive when lead singer Jay Jay Pistolet croons "Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on." The bass and guitar mirror the calming, cool breeze while the percussion track is as nonchalant as the rolling waves on the way out to sea.

"Over the Ocean" by Jamaram

Now what's a ride out on the ocean without a reggae-style jam? The island guitar strummings have a lilting rhythm that pairs perfectly with the boom-kat, boom-kat of the drums. The harmonic vocals ease any trepidations as strong horns announce your arrival at a picturesque dive site waiting to be explored.

The Descent

"Timestretch" by Bassnectar

If you never considered that an electronic tune — let alone something as bass-y as Bassnectar — could make a good dive-along song it's time to start considering. Few electronic artists are as daring as this long-haired DJ. But the psychedelic trills and reverberating bass in "Timestretch" definitely encourage us to stretch out our time in the aqueous zone.

"Holy Diver" by Dio

Check your dive watch; it's time to rock out with your gear out. The gruff character of Ronnie James Dio's voice paired with striking riffs and classic rock drum tracks will make this your most epic dive yet. The Holy Diver album was first released in 1983 and continues to make us feel on top of the world (even underwater).

The Dive

"Pulsar" by Armin Van Buuren

If the king of Trance doesn't make you want to boogie along the ocean currents and glide with eels and fish, I don't know what will.

"The Current" [feat. Gavin Rossdale] by Blue Man Group

If Gavin Rossdale has been "thinkin' 'bout the future" I think we'll all be thinking about our next dive to this groove-worthy tune. Blue Man Group's music is as unique as their look; that bass line is performed with an instrument made from PVC pipes.

"Laugh as the Sun" by Rusted Root

Before we head back to the boat let's get one more jammin' track in. You likely know Rusted Root's smash hit "Send Me On My Way," which became the overarching theme song for the movie Matilda. As you take a last cruise with the marine life at your dive spot, swim to the staccato bongo beats of this fun-loving tune.

The Return Trip

"Ocean" by The John Butler Trio

If the instrument has strings, John Butler is likely shredding it in his beautiful, homegrown way. This track is a long one, but believe me, it's well worth the full 12 minutes. Full of crescendos, decrescendos, complex pickings and melodies, the sound of this song is just as unpredictable as the ocean itself. Listen to it with your eyes closed (unless you're still diving, then keep your peepers on alert and your ears on Butler's tune).

"Underwater" by Joshua Radin

Joshua Radin has his own quiet, subtle style that instantly relaxes. Topped off with an organic touch, it's like Radin's singing just for you as you lounge in the blanket-warm sun covering the deck on your boat-ride back.

"Back to the Earth" by Rusted Root

You can see the coming shore in the distance, and as sad as you might be to be topside again, this song sounds like everything that's beautiful about being dry. As the boat floats on, the groove really picks up with dueling bongos, layers of guitar and harmonizing vocals.

So, there you have it, funky divers: ten tracks to keep your ears company as your eyes take in the gorgeous scenes on your dive. If you love this idea, tell us on Facebook and Twitter. Got a great idea for another playlist? Tell us that, too!
