Spotted wobbegong (Orectolobus maculatus)
Location: Cook Island, Australia
Marine Life: Spotted wobbegong(Orectolobus maculatus)
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture set at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: I was a bit nervous about getting to within 20cm of this sleeping shark to use the framing arm on the macro lens. However he didn't seem to mind posing one little bit and I was very happy with the result since I got the chance for one frame!
Blotched porcupinefish (Diodon liturosus)
Location: Cook Island, Australia
Marine Life: Blotched porcupinefish (Diodon liturosus)
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: I really like these unusual fish, even if they are fairly common around my local sites. I had to get up close to this one who was hanging out under a large rock. He turned and posed at just the right time.
Saddle backed toby (Canthigaster valentini)
Location: Julian Rocks, Byron Bay, Australia
Marine Life: Saddle backed toby (Canthigaster valentini)
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: My favorite fish. They are slow swimmers and seem to go into a holding pattern when threatened (say by a large bubble-blowing diver with a camera thrust out in front of him). This one at least faced the camera for me.
Blue spotted stingray (Dasyatis kuhlii)
Location: Julian Rocks, Byron Bay, Australia
Marine Life: Blue spotted stingray (Dasyatis kuhlii)
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (close up lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Description: Lots of nice rays in my local diving area. This one was particularly unconcerned about being my subject.
White faced anemonefish (Amphiprion akindynos)
Location: Palm Beach Reef, Goldcoast Queensland, Australia
Marine Life: White faced anemonefish (Amphiprion akindynos) in Radianthus anemone
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: My other favorite fish. I have spent many, many frames of film on these but I just can't resist trying for another one each time I see an anemone. One day I will be satisfied that I have the perfect anemonefish shot--probably when I am bankrupt from getting film developed!
Brown clown or Clarks anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii)
Location: Hugo's Trench, Byron Bay, Australia
Marine Life: Brown clown or Clarks anemonefish (Amphiprion clarkii) in a bubble anemone
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: Looks like a nice life to lead, hiding in the protective arms of your own anemone!
Weedy seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus)
Location: Long Bay, Sydney, Australia
Marine Life: Weedy seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus)
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (macro lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
Description: What an interesting fish. I have only ever seen one while diving but I would like to see more. They are relatively easy to photograph although they are prone to stress so I don't hassle them too much.
Turtle
Location: Cook Island, Australia
Marine Life: Turtle
Camera & Settings: Sea & Sea MX-10 (close up lens) with a YS40A strobe on auto and aperture at f-8
Film: Kodak Gold 400
