Recently named among our Legends of Dive, Sylvia Earle is also being recognized by TIME in their new book titled “TIME, Firsts: Women Who Are Changing the World.”

The book will focus on the accomplishments of women, and it is rumored that Earle will have her own chapter. Earle is being specifically recognized for her role as the first woman to be named chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

In her interview with TIME, (read the full interview here) Earle explains how she always loved science, even when it was not considered an attractive career for women. Her life-long love and dedication to science and the ocean has brought her notoriety over the years, and this is just one more accolade to add to the long list for Earle.
