The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the opening of a Visitors Center for the Cancun Underwater Museum. The center showcases 26 replicas of the museum's most popular underwater sculptures, and a recent submersion of 11 pieces of Jason de Caires Taylor's work increased the museum's total sculpture count to 500 pieces of underwater art.
The Top 100 Gold List of operators, resorts, liveaboards, experiences (such as best wall, shore and artificial-reef sites), beach bars, topside attractions and more was determined on a “popularity contest” basis.
Museum officially opens its doors during the 16th Annual United Nations’ Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP16) & the 6th Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP16) in Cancun.
I’m snorkeling 10 feet underwater with no bottom in sight, as a large fleet of fishing boats is fast-trolling lines with giant shark hooks, trying to capture the same fish I’m attempting to photograph.
