Accessible Seclusion In Little Cayman

Southern Cross Club Little Cayman

Discovered in 1503; the Cayman Islands are rich in history and tradition and today boast the highest standard of living in the Caribbean Basin. Located on the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands, Little Cayman, the Southern Cross Club Fish and Dive Resort is Little Cayman’s original resort; established in 1958.

Back in 1958, on Little Cayman’s nearly vacant shores, a group of adventurers opened the Southern Cross Club as a fishing club. At that time the island boasted a population of only three. Now home to about 200 year-round residents, give or take a few depending on the day, Little Cayman continues to be one of the least developed, safest, and easily accessible tropical islands in the western hemisphere. Little Cayman entices visitors with its accessible seclusion, undeveloped beauty and the healthy diversity of its marine environment. There is an unspoiled tranquility found on its’ land, beaches, and sea.

The Resort

The Southern Cross Club’s fourteen very comfortable beach bungalows, are dappled over 900ft of pristine white sand beach and are all ocean front; facing gorgeous South Hole Sound and uninhabited Owen Island. This layout affords a cooling southern breeze from the summer trade winds and stellar ocean views from each room. Set in the middle of this row of bungalows is Club’s main building; The Clubhouse features the main dining room, a screened, open air dining pavilion, an upper deck, the Loggerhead Bar and thatched Tiki bar around the saltwater pool.

The resort’s bungalows are each as unique and vibrant as the sea they fringe and are colored to mimic the spirit of the Caribbean Sea. All cottages have private baths, outside decks and air-conditioning; some have a king bed, others two queens and many have an additional day bed overlooking South Hole Sound Lagoon and a private outdoor shower. The two bedroom suite, Blossom Cottage, is perfect for small families or small groups of friends and the popular Honeymoon Cottage features a private outdoor shower overlooking the colorful South Hole Sound lagoon.

The Cayman Islands have a dive site for every day of the year - Dive365 - and Little Cayman’s dive sites are the gems in the crown of the Cayman Islands. World renowned and breathtaking Bloody Bay Marine Park was established in 1986 and has allowed the Cayman Islands marine parks dive tourism stand head and shoulders above many others in the Caribbean.

Southern Cross Club’s dedicated dive operation provides an ideal opportunity to explore the best Little Cayman has to offer. The dive program is designed to comfortably serve both experienced divers with thousands of dives under his or her wetsuit, as well as the novice who wants to learn the names of the hundreds of fish seen every day on dives.

The dive operation runs two boats and allows only a restricted number of divers on board at any given time, following a strict policy of “non-cattle diving”, which gives the dive team an opportunity to ensure the guests get the most diligent service possible. The enthusiastic and experienced dive team guide all dives; offering guests an opportunity to get the most from their dives and ensure they don’t miss some of the marine life treasures, which are often hidden to the less experienced eye.

The flexible and professional dive operation offers 2-tank morning, afternoon, dusk and night dives, as well as all the requisite PADI certifications, refresher courses, specialties, and Discover Scuba Diving.

For many years, before the Southern Cross Club pioneered the diving on the island, Little Cayman was known primarily as a fishing destination. Due to the minimal development on the island’s shores, the flats fishing inside the reef is diverse and exciting.

Southern Cross Club has the only full service fishing facility on Little Cayman with a full time professional guide. Even though Little Cayman is only 10 square miles in size, the ecosystem is dynamic. Fly Fishing enthusiasts come from around the globe to stalk the Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon. The diversity also includes off-shore fishing along the sheer ocean drop-offs for species such as Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna and Marlin.

The Little Cayman ecosystem is small but very dynamic; the resort does not take more than 2 dedicated fishing packages at any one time and is dedicated to maintaining a healthy fishery and follows sustainable fishing practices. Most guests are content mixing some fishing in with their diving, or vice-versa, to make for a complete island adventure
