ScubaLab Testers Choice: Zeagle Recon Fins

The Zeagle recon fins were a ScubaLab Testers Choice during the 2018 scuba diving fins test. Learn what our testers liked about these fins in this video review. See the full ScubaLab fin review here.

I'm Roger Roy, the ScubaLab director. We tested the Zeagle Recon fin. With surprising performance, versatility and comfort, it was our Testers choice for technical fins.

We tested the Recon at Alexander Springs in Central Florida, where test divers rated it in 12 different categories, including efficiency, power, acceleration and comfort.

Tec fins tend to specialize in the kind of low-effort frog kick used by cave or wreck divers. But the Recon proved an effective kicker in every style test divers threw at it. It took excellent scores for flutter kick and surface swimming - a surprise for fin that weighs nearly 3 lbs each in size medium. Its beefy side rails, along with a pair of support ribs below the foot pocket, helped it earn the highest score in its category for power. One test diver said the fin "feels like an extension of my foot." The long, heavy blade and thick rails were great for acceleration, but also made the fin a little tough to maneuver. The fin was rated very good for comfort and fit, though most divers found the sizing on the large side. Getting the Recon on and off were effortless thanks the spring strap (with nut-and-bolt adjustment) and large finger loop. The Zeagle Recon is our Testers Choice for technical fins.
