Women Divers Hall of Fame
WDHOF, the international not-for-profit organization that recognizes the contributions of outstanding women divers, has introduced four annual scholarships for women in various fields of diving and marine science. WDHOF is dedicated to using its resources to support women throughout the entire diving community. The Founders of the Women Divers Hall of Fame™ - Beneath the Sea, Women Underwater E-Zine, Women's Scuba Association, The Underwater Society of America, and Hillary Viders, Ph.D. - are proud that WDHOF is filling a real need in the diving community for an organization which provides educational and financial support for women of all ages, particularly those who are preparing for professional careers in diving. Therefore, beginning in 2002, the WDHOF will award four scholarships every March. All four scholarships will be presented this coming year on March 24, at the WDHOF Member luncheon at Beneath the Sea 2002, which will take place at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. The WOMEN DIVERS HALL Of FAME™ SCHOLARSHIP A $500 scholarship awarded to a deserving woman diver of any age and background, the WDHOF Scholarship is to be used for any educational program in the dive industry. The HILLARY VIDERS SCHOLARSHIP A $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified woman of any age, diver or non-diver, who is enrolled in an accredited college level marine science program (undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate). Applicants must submit a resume and a 1000 word essay, which describes the nature of their work and long-term goals. THE LIFEGUARD SYSTEMS (LGS) SCHOLARSHIP Through their nonprofit organization RIPTIDE, LGS will award unlimited courses for a full year to a qualified woman diver. Applicants are required to:1) Show LGS copies of their diving certifications and any EMS/Fire/Law Enforcement certifications and ID's which they hold (note: EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement certifications are not a prerequisite for scholarship eligibility), 2) Submit a 1000 word essay of why they would like this scholarship, what they hope to gain from it, and what their long term goals are, and 3) Supply two to three references that LGS can contact. THE ISAM SCHOLARSHIP The International Society of Aquatic Medicine (ISAM) will be offering an annual $500 scholarship to a female medical, dental, nursing or other applied health professional student to be used towards an ISAM CME meeting. Employed health professionals make less than $60,000 per annum may also apply.
