New Resource for Bird's Head Seascape

Divers just got a brand-new online resource for one of the world’s most popular dive spots and one of its most significant regions for marine life biodiversity: the Bird’s Head Seascape (BHS). Comprised of Raja Ampat, Cenderawasih and Triton Bays, these regions house 56 acres of biodiversity that make this area of Indonesia’s Coral Triangle a sought-after destination for divers and adventure travelers.
The newest destination for all things BHS: birdsheadseascape.com.
Developed by photojournalists Burt Jones and Maurine Shimlock, Conservation International and Newsmediasoup, it’s not only a site for divers.
Visitors can share photos, plan environmentally friendly trips, and stay abreast of the local news, latest scientific research and conservation initiatives related to the West Papua region. The site is constantly updated, making outdated print guidebook information an old memory.
“With a website we can keep the info current instead of having to print a revision [of Diving Indonesia’s Raja Ampat] every few years,” Jones said. “Heck, the info in the book needed updating almost before the ink was dry. The site is very comprehensive and is intended to be an invaluable asset to travelers to the region.”
The site also establishes a social hub for travelers to share images and videos of BHS experiences. Interactive maps of BHS and archived scientific papers are also available in the online library. Blogs with the latest news and links to Facebook and Twitter will keep visitors apprised of upcoming events and the latest content.
