When it came to helping out some sick sea turtles, Boston's New England Aquarium decided to take the alternative route and look to acupuncture as their method for veterinary medicine.

The patients were two Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles who were in need of help after suffering from hypothermia. Unfortunately, several hundred marine turtles became hypothermic last winter and were stranded on local beaches. Hopefully with this alternative form of medicine, more can be saved as the temps start to drop.

“Sometimes, the traditional methods aren’t working the way we want them to, and so we’ve reached out to a licensed acupuncturist,” said marine rescue team leader Connie Merigo. “These two turtles really had very limited limb use, and they weren’t eating. We are seeing improved limb use and improved appetite. They are eating on their own, which is fantastic.”
