CLUB MED THEME WEEK RECAP

Last June, SCUBAPRO Business Development Manager David W. Rhea attended a Club Med Theme week at Club Med's Columbus isle in San Salvador Bahamas. With the upcoming Scuba Bash at Club Med Turkoise in Turks & Caicos, we thought that David's recap of last year's event would give our reader a first hand look at how Club Med goes out of their way to provide an incredible diving experience for their customers:

This past week I had the great pleasure of attending the first annual Club Med SCUBAPRO Theme Week. This world-class event took place at the beautiful Club Med Columbus isle in San Salvador Bahamas. The week consisted of SCUBAPRO equipment demos, fantastic diving, top-notch speakers like Bob Talbot and Michele Verdure, and unprecedented service like only Club Med can deliver. Throughout the week we had over 80 divers and snorkelers trying out the latest SCUBAPRO products. Divers had the opportunity to try the Classic Plus and the LadyHawk BC's with Air 2's, and the Mk20/S600 and S550 regulators. Most everyone got to try either the new Air-Z or the new Sport Plus computers. Virtually every diver, including the Club Med staff and the special guests, dove with the new Twin Jet Full Foot fins. Everyone had wonderful feedback without a single negative comment. During the afternoons, we had 6 SASA units and 6 SASY units on the snorkel boat. Everyday demand for the products grew. We even had one young couple from Tampa who said that the SASA unit allowed the young lady the confidence to swim around and truly enjoy viewing the underwater world for the first time. Her newlywed husband said that this was the first time she had ever let go of the boat, the SASA giving her the confidence to cruise all over the snorkel site. Two days later they were back for another fun filled SASA adventure. The SASA and SASY snorkeling adventures were a delightful success.

If you have never been to Club Med, you owe it to yourself to go. This is truly first class diving and unparalleled service. Club Med has the best customer oriented service in the diving industry. From the moment you arrive on the island, you are met with a big smile and plenty of GO's (genteel organizers) to help you the GM (genteel Member) with your luggage. Once you arrive at the village the GO's are lined up outside to gleefully clap and sing you into their island paradise. After a brief reception complete with welcome cocktail and information packet, you are personally guided to your room. While you were enjoying your cocktail and welcome, the luggage was tagged and delivered to your doorstep. The rooms are beautifully decorated, tiled floors and comfortable beds. Each room has a nice large bathroom and shower, a wonderful balcony looking out to the turquoise water, cable TV, and very efficient AC. There are phones in each room just in case you have to call folks back home and brag about where you are.The dive boats go out at 8:30 & 8:45 in the mornings. SCUBAPRO commandeered the 8:45 boat, Angel Ray, each day for gear demos. I can't say enough about the dive boats. In my personal opinion they are the best laid out, efficient, and well-maintained dive boats I have ever been on. The captain and crew are totally dedicated to making sure that your dive experience is the absolute best it can be.Each trip out is a two-tank dive. If you have never done a dive in San Salvador you are in for a treat. This is first class wall diving with visibility normally exceeding 150' and only slight currents if any. This week we had perfect seas, gorgeous weather, and generally 200' of vis.Never before in all my years of traveling have I been on a dive trip and eaten so much great food. Each meal is an adventure in self-discipline. The food is not only great tasting but the selection is limitless. The food is served buffet style with unlimited opportunities to go back for more. During lunch and dinner, wine and beer are served as part of the meal at no extra charge. Each evening we had the great pleasure of being entertained by phenomenal photo/video presentations by Bob Talbot, Michele Verdure and others. At 10:00 pm every night Club Med offers a special theatrical presentation conducted by the GO's. By now, you have seen these folks every day in their normal working positions such as Divemaster, SCUBA chief, reception hosts etc. Now you get to see a completely different side of them as they showcase their talent. These late night events are both impressive and hilarious. If you need a break from all of the diving, don't worry about getting bored. Included in your Club Med package is a host of above water activities like kayaking, sailboating, archery, waterskiing, windsurfing and other exciting activities. If your tendencies lean toward total relaxation, the gorgeous white powder sand beach awaits you. And if you want to try the latest SCUBAPRO equipment, Club Med offers onlySCUBAPRO gear at each of their diving resorts.I hope I have made you eager to round up your family or friends for a trip to Club Med as that was my intention. Club Med is without a doubt one of the finest dive experiences you can imagine. You owe it to yourself to take a trip to Club Med.I want to extend a sincere thanks to Club Med and all the GO's of Columbus Isle. The SCUBAPRO Theme week was a great success for both SCUBAPRO and Club Med.Sincerely,David W. RheaSCUBAPRO/UWATECBusiness Development Manager
