Sport Diver Reviews Point and Shoots

Sport Diver Staff

The point-and-shoot camera is the photographic equivalent of a classic six-gun. Its trim size and nimble handling allow it to be carried at all times and put into action at a moment's notice. It's the perfect companion for any dive. Best of all, a little practice can turn a skilled handler into a competent shooter. Whether recording a dive buddy, an unexpected animal encounter or a breathtaking seascape, the modern point-and-shoot can handle the job. Divers may opt to rig their present camera for underwater use or go shopping for a dive-specific model; either way, the market has plenty to offer.

| Bonica Snapper XP Reviewed by Ty Sawyer, Sport Diver Editor "On the upside, the Snapper was easy to assemble and use right out of the box, and the large LCD works well in reviewing images out of the water."| |

| Nikon Coolpix L14 Reviewed by Ty Sawyer, Sport Diver Editor This camera was tested with the Ikelite housing and AF35 autoflash kit. "The easy handling and use of the Ikelite housing, and the AF35 strobe proved perfectly adequate for this setup when used within the parameters (three feet or less from the lens)."| |

| Olympus Stylus 1030 SW Reviewed by Ty Sawyer Sport Diver Editor "The camera delivered consistently nice images when in scene modes, and there was little shutter delay. The 1030 is easy to use, going instantly from out of the box and into the water."| |

| SeaLife DC800 Pro Reviewed by Brooke Morton, Sport Diver Associate Editor "The SeaLife DC800 Pro does a nice job of shooting with just ambient light, and with the sea mode, rich colors are restored. The LCD screen is large and accurate enough to provide a spot-on depiction of what you shot."| |

| SONY DSC W-300 Cyber Shot Reviewed by Jeff Mondle, Sport Diver Territory Manager "Divers will especially like that the new zoom function automatically handles macro subjects, so there's no need to switch to a separate macro mode for close-up subjects."|
