Some divers get their kicks from exploring deep, dark wrecks, with the latest and greatest tec gear and training to assist in any situation. Thankfully, for the rest of us, there are sites like the Felipe Xicoténcatl (aka C-53) shipwreck, with plenty of natural light shining down on its structure, which starts around 45 feet and reaches its max depth at about 80.

“It’s a great afternoon dive, easy for first-time wreck divers and a very interesting dive with a lot of marine life,” says Timothy Massimino, general manager of Scuba Club Cozumel. Hang out with the local barracuda, grouper and eels that frequent the wreck, or take some time to explore the engine rooms — with engines still intact — radio room and head.

Water Conditions Temps from high 70s to mid-80s, with viz from 80 to 100 feet.
