Whether you are a diver who returns every year or a first-time visitor to Roatan, you will be delighted at the changes that have been made to the Galindo family-owned Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR). Located on a small Key in Honduras’ Bay Islands, AKR had its beginnings 54 years ago as an intimate hideaway that reflected the beauty of the Caribbean Sea and provided guests with an authentic island experience. Today, it is still operated by the same Galindo family, and it has retained its original charm while it has transformed into an eco-friendly resort.

Protecting Roatan’s natural resources is a crucial part of AKR’s mission. The resort’s solar system is the largest privately owned solar installation in the western Caribbean. Single-use plastic items, such as plastic bags, bottles, coffee stirrers and straws, are not purchased by or sold at the resort. Wastewater is collected and used to irrigate the gorgeous gardens found throughout the property. With the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences, the resort participates in a coral nursery program, which is maintained by visiting university groups and volunteer guests.

Guests can stay in one of the resort’s quiet hillside bungalows or enjoy sweeping views of the Caribbean in one of the bungalows on the key. The overwater bungalows deliver what many travelers are craving right now — privacy and the space to spread out in an idyllic setting. These are the Keys Deluxe rooms, and they’re nestled at the edge of the Caribbean Sea, inches from the reefs that divers and snorkelers enjoy during their stay.

AKR is a perennial favorite among seasoned divers and dive groups, in large part due to the safety and expertise of the dive staff, who cater to every guest’s need, whether that’s a Discover Scuba Diving experience or a group dive where divers are taken to the best reefs, walls and wrecks found within minutes of the resort’s dock. Course directors can also lead candidates through Instructor Development Courses.

The resort has a fleet of 13 boats, which includes seven 42-foot vessels with shaded areas, dry storage and freshwater rinse areas for cameras. AKR also offers a 46-foot boat dedicated to snorkeling.

AKR was designed as an ideal place for allowing guests to connect with nature and one another, and their dining experiences have always been an extension of that philosophy. The resort’s brand-new restaurant, Ankor Seafood Grill, offers exceptional service in a space that is both inviting and upscale, and where friends and family can gather around the table to share stories, local cultures and amazing food. It is an unforgettable dining experience that features dishes created by chefs using treasured family recipes used by generations of chefs at the resort for over 50 years.

In addition to Ankor Seafood Grill, the resort added a new coffee shop, Coast Coffee, where guests can sample handcrafted coffees, teas and refreshing iced beverages.

Guests can kick back by lazing in a hammock overlooking the ocean or do one of the fun-filled watersports activities possible from the key’s small beach. You can also take an afternoon dip in the swimming pool or unwind with a luxurious massage at Ixora Spa.

You’ll find the Scuba School, Seaside Gifts & Photos, Photo Roatan, AKR’s Snack Shop, Dive Shop and the dock with a fleet of state-of-the-art dive boats on the dockside. A short walk will take you to the Roatan Museum and the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences. You can also sign up for educational programs and activities with the dolphins at Bailey’s Key.

Making it all happen is the AKR staff, many of whom have been with the resort for more than three decades and share a passion for Roatan. At AKR, you’ll have a vacation with the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility during your getaway to Roatan. Don’t miss your chance for an unforgettable vacation at the “resort nature designed.”
