As a PADI Diver, you're much more than a person who likes to spend time around the water; you're an ambassador of the underwater world. That's why it's so important to learn about current issues affecting the underwater environment and how to protect it.
By completing the Project AWARE Specialty course, you'll become informed about critical issues such as coastal zone management, marine pollution, worldwide aquatic ecosystems and the status of several critically degraded marine environments. You'll also learn how you can help preserve and protect our aquatic resources. This nondiving specialty can be completed in as little as one afternoon and counts toward the Master Scuba Diver rating.
The Project AWARE Specialty course is the Specialty of the Month for April. Enroll in a Project AWARE Specialty course during April 2006 and you can earn a free set of FishFlips from PADI. You'll enjoy using one of these waterproof, wearable fish identification books on your next warm-water dive vacation. For more information, contact your local PADI dive center or resort, or check out the April issue of Sport Diver magazine.
Be sure to ask your local PADI Dive Center or Resort how you can get involved with Dive In To Earth Day. Last year's event included dozens of different activities for divers and nondivers alike, such as shoreline and underwater cleanups, fish and coral surveys, mooring-buoy installations, art contests and more.
