Kick slowly and vary your kick style occasionally. Here are several kicks you can master:Flutter kick: Probably the most efficient kicking style, the flutter is simply the alternating up-and-down movement of your legs and fins. Your instructor may have told you to keep your legs straight and move at the hips while flutter kicking. However, it is OK to bend your knees slightly.Dolphin kick: A fun kick since your body is imitating the undulating movement of a favored marine mammal, but not as efficient as the flutter kick.Scull: Keeping your legs still, use your ankles to move slowly forward or back as if paddling. This kick is really useful when trying to get close to something without disturbing the surroundings.Frog kick: Again, not a terribly efficient kick, but a different one. And it's particularly useful for sneaking around quietly on the surface. Frogs kick sideways with a bent-knee motion. Such action can also take the pressure off tired knees and calves.
