Happy Hour Dive Site: Sunset House Reef
Why It’s an Editor’s Pick: Located just one mile south of Grand Cayman’s capital George Town, Sunset House Reef is a popular dive site among tourists and locals alike. This shore dive boasts multiple entry points from the famed dive resort which bears its name, as well as a public mooring for boaters. A WWII-era landing craft wreck (David Nicholson), deep wall and shallow reef are some of the main features of this spectacular dive site. The site is an underwater photographer’s holy grail, with amazing visibility, no current, a plethora of macro subjects, plus eels, rays, tarpon, snapper, and of course, curious turtles. With such a great variety of dive sites to choose from, Sunset House Reef is the perfect site for snorkelers, newbies, and even the most experienced divers.
Signature Experience: Amphitrite, the 9-foot-tall, 600-pound bronze mermaid that was placed in 55 feet of water on Sunset House Reef in 2000. The sculpture was created by Canadian artist Simon Morris, and is officially named Amphitrite, Siren of Sunset Reef. In mythology, Amphitrite was the queen of the seas, married to Poseidon, lord of the oceans.

Sunset HouseIn addition to its signature drink, the Mudslide, My Bar offers fantastic East Indian curry dishes.
After you’ve surfaced from your afternoon dive and put your gear away for the night, it’s time to relax with a happy hour cocktail at My Bar.

Sunset HouseWhen it’s “Dive O’clock,” it’s time to kick back with a frosty drink and watch the sunset.
Watch the Sunset during Happy Hour at: My Bar
Why It’s an Editor’s Pick: This huge open-sided, thatch-roofed cabana is the largest, and at times the liveliest, outdoor bar in Grand Cayman. Located on the property of Sunset House, a perennial favorite among Scuba Diving readers in its annual Readers Choice Awards (in 2018, Sunset House was once again named as one of the World’s Best Dive Resorts). This “Best of Caribbean” award winner has been a favorite for tourists and locals for the past 60 years. Standing on the water’s edge, steps from where scuba divers and snorkelers go in and out of the crystal-clear water, My Bar is for many people the best place to spend surface intervals, to celebrate post-dive and to watch glorious Caribbean sunsets.
Signature Drink: Mudslide, a decadent, creamy frozen cocktail that is a mix of vodka, Kahlua and Bailey's Irish Cream. The sun — and all your cares — will slip away into the calming waters of the Caribbean.
