Started in 2011, the annual Miss Scuba In- ternational pageant offers young women a unique opportunity to showcase their marine-conservation efforts and diving skills.
Robert Lo, founder of the Miss Scuba International Organization and owner of several Indonesian dive resorts, is a strong believer in sustainable development within the marine environment. Lo created the organization in hopes that it would become a successful global platform to promote awareness of the world’s oceans.
As the first pageant exclusively devoted to scuba diving and marine-conservation awareness, any potential candidate must hold an open-water certification (or its equivalent) to qualify for participation.
The pageant begins with qualified candidates competing to be crowned Miss Scuba of their country. National winners then go on to represent their countries in the international pageant, where judging is based on individual talent, diving skills, scuba-tourism knowledge, marine-conservation knowledge, work ethic and Q&A proficiency.
Once crowned, the queen embarks on a year of ocean-conservation campaigns to educate and inspire conservation.
