Dacor Signs Barry Clifford For Endorsements
An American Dive Company and Underwater ExplorerBring Excitement Back to Diving For over 20 years, underwater explorer and nautical historian Barry Clifford has relied on dive gear manufactured by Dacor, the 50-year-old American dive manufacturer based along the Connecticut shore in Norwalk. In fact, he used Dacor regulators, BC's, masks, and fins, when he discovered the Whydah Galley off Cape Cod in 1984, the only authenticated pirate shipwreck ever found. Now these two legends are joining forces in one of the dive industry's largest exclusive endorsement programs ever. Starting in fall 2002, new packaging for Dacor masks, snorkels and fins will carry Barry Clifford's name and likeness, and images of his underwater discoveries will emphasize the "Adventure with Every Dive" theme. The announcement was made July 23 at the prestigious Explorers Club in New York, where Clifford is a member and Dacor's sister company, Mares America, is a corporate sponsor. As spokesperson for Dacor, Clifford will conduct media interviews nationwide, and appear on radio, TV, and in newspapers and magazines about his upcoming expeditions. The 56-year-old explorer, based in Provincetown, Mass., will also conduct a speaking tour across the U.S., visit dive specialty shops, and represent Dacor at major consumer dive shows. Clifford's life is the inspiration for the new television series, Adventure Inc. This syndicated adventure show, coming this fall, stars Michael Biehn (The Terminator, The Abyss, Aliens), and details the exploits of legendary explorer Judson Cross. Cross enjoys a worldwide reputation as a leader of a highly talented team willing to take extraordinary risks and go to any length for the sheer pursuit of adventure aboard the Vast Explorer. Adventure Inc. is being produced in association with Fireworks Entertainment and Tribune Entertainment and premieres October 2002. Jay Firestone and Adam Haight serve as Executive Producers (Mutant X, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, The Believer) and Gale Anne Hurd, (Armageddon, The Terminator, The Abyss) is Executive Producing for Tribune Entertainment. Clifford also has a new book coming out called The Lost Fleet (2002, Morrow/HarperCollins) that tells the fascinating story of the buccaneer's life before the turn of the 18th century. "The Barry Clifford program will inject new life into the sport of diving and snorkeling," said Dacor president Carlo Bertozzi. "Working together, Dacor Sport and Barry Clifford will make diving and snorkeling more than a sport - each descent will become an underwater diving adventure."Bertozzi believes few other undersea projects better demonstrate product performance than the search for lost shipwrecks in extreme conditions. The Clifford endorsement will help generate awareness for Dacor's high performance dive gear, including the new lightweight and subcompact Eagle D/P.D. regulator, the Darwin dive computer with selectable air, nitrox and bottom time modes, and the new Rig Pro BC for technical divers. The recent endorsement by Barry Clifford is a continuation of Dacor's long history of working with those who demand top performance in their dive gear. Dacor has also been a major supplier to the entertainment industry as well. From James Bond in Thunderball and Nick Nolte in The Deep, to James Cameron's Titanic, Dacor has been the equipment of choice. For many years, the company was the official supplier of equipment to Baywatch, the world's most watched television show. Dacor is headquartered in Norwalk, Conn.
