Travelers who want to minimize risks associated with overseas destinations should research medical care and safety concerns before they go, according to International SOS Assistance. The organization recommends adhering to these health and safety precautions prior to traveling:1 Carry prescription medications in their original, labeled containers to help ease the process of customs when traveling abroad.2 Avoid not only tap water and ice cubes, but also local dairy products and raw or uncooked foods in many countries since such products can lead to digestive problems. Drink bottled water.3 Update vaccines and immunizations for prevalent diseases and research the health risks and the availability of medical care in the area where you will be traveling.4 Make copies of your airline tickets, itineraries and passport. Leave one at home and carry another copy in a separate piece of luggage in case the originals are lost.5 Travel in pairs or groups, especially at night. Walk with confidence and remain alert.6 Avoid wearing designer clothes and expensive jewelry.7 Carry small amounts of money and wear a money belt close to your body.
