1. Party Time
From June 22 to 28, the annual Utila Dive Festival features a full-island scavenger hunt, daily themed dives and a boat parade of lights. utiladivefestival.com
2. Ghostly Site
Duppy (which means “ghost”) Waters is named for the eerie way the light hits the reef. Even if you don’t see ghosts, you’ll surely see groupers, morays and plenty of barrel sponges. utiladivecenter.com
3. Wrecked
Sunk in around 100 feet of water in 1998, the Halliburton cargo ship is now home to green morays, angelfish, grouper — and bicycles. deepbluediversutila.com
4. Big Fish
If you’ve ever dreamed of snorkeling with whale sharks (and who hasn’t?), put Utila on your short list. Best months for an encounter are late February to April and August to September. utilalodge.com
5. Local Morays
Head north along the wall at Raggedy Cay, which descends to a 100-foot sandy bottom, and keep your eyes peeled for trumpetfish, chain moray and spotted moray eels. lagunabeachresort.info
6. Street Eats
Delicious Honduran street food, the simplest baleada is a flour tortilla stuffed with mashed fried beans, crumbled cheese and crema.
7. What’s Up
Hire a stand-up paddle-board guide for an excursion to the Utila Cays. yogicove.com
8. Aerie Art
Half art installation, half treetop bar, the Treetanic Bar and adjacent Jade Seahorse Inn are not to be missed. jadeseahorse.com
