Coral Spawning Event Makes for Lively Photo Scene off St. Lucia
Love is in the air each year when the timing is just right and corals burst into action and there is a mass coral spawning event. Corals shoot a countless amount of gametes (eggs and sperm) into the water each year around seven days after the late summer full moon, creating a spectacle for observers.
Scuba St. Lucia is one of the dive operators that has the timing down just right, and with a reef just a few yards from the main beach at Anse Chastanet Resort, divers in St. Lucia can be treated to a special experience.
Check out these photos from the latest coral spawning event, which took place Aug. 25 and 26 in St. Lucia, and a video of the phenomenon in 2014 above.
