Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas to Host Diving World-Record Attempts
Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas will be working with Ms. Reem Aleidan, a certified scuba instructor, and her team from Kuwait to set new world records in the following categories:
• Longest Underwater Dive by a Woman
• Longest Underwater Dive by a Man (pending Guinness approval)
• Longest SHARK Dive by a Woman (pending Guinness approval)
• Longest SHARK Dive by a Man (pending Guinness approval)
"As one of the few Arab women scuba instructors in the world, plus being a single mother of two children, I was looking for a way to raise awareness for women's rights and the plight of Arab women in the Middle East," says Reem. "Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is a challenge, being a woman in the Middle East and wanting to teach diving is even more challenging. I am hoping by holding this event in the western world we can bring media attention to the plight of women like me in the Middle East and any other countries around the world where women are repressed and not allowed to express themselves like men can in many activities, like scuba diving."

Reem was persuaded to attempt the world records in the Bahamas after learning about the calm ocean conditions off Nassau. "The calm peaceful waters of Nassau, Bahamas, provide the perfect setting for the event, as I had originally planned to break this record in Egypt. However, working with my friend and Team Leader Alharith Alateeqi, he suggested we move the venue to the Bahamas, specifically to his friend Stuart Cove and his location in Nassau," explains Reem. "The warm waters of the Bahamas are close to the USA, and will serve the event well with good access to many western media outlets in the USA."
The rest of her team includes coaches Mark McCrum, Mubarak Abuhaimad and Nasser Bader (of Royal Marine Dive Center), fitness and nutrition specialist Dr. Yaqoub Alenizi and PR manager Musaed Almutairi.
Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas is delighted to be serving as host. "We are utilizing our many media and Hollywood connections to help drive publicity," says Stuart Cove. "I have appointed Liz Parkinson our media liaison and coordinator for this event, and expect to garner world attention for 'Team Reem' and her attempt to set many new Guinness World Records. We have applied and been accepted by Guinness to conduct these record attempts and are excited to be a part of something far larger and more global than us all individually."
The event is tentatively scheduled for March 7, 2016. "We will have a live underwater video feed that will be streamed to global media via YouTube for this event," says Liz Parkinson, media liaison for Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas. "We plan to have boats on station 24 hours a day for this 60-plus-hour Guinness World record-breaking event. Our goal is to use as many women in the logistics and production as possible, as we all believe in the ‘Team Reem’s’ concept and idea. Having been to the Middle East myself, I have seen firsthand how women are placed in their society. This record attempt means a lot to me personally.”
