Wreck News: Saving the SS Thistlegorm
Perhaps one of the most dived wrecks in the world, the Thistlegorm is located in the Red Sea with a max depth of just under 100 feet, making it a popular wreck for divers of all abilities.
Sadly, daily visits by dive boats has caused its rapid destruction. Due to the fact that the wreck has no permanent moorings around her, boats moor directly to the wreck on any part they can tie a rope. Over the last few years, surface swells have been tearing the wreck apart. The deterioration has resulted in some parts of the wreck becoming dangerous to penetrate and deck areas destroyed.
Saving SS Thistlegorm is working with local authorities and CDWS to try and educate dive operators on better practices and to get a temporary mooring system in place leading to a permanent solution.
