Many divers are familiar with Silfra, Iceland, for its impossibly clear frigid water. Here, we've rounded up five more freshwater dive spots where visibility can't be beat.
Ginnie Springs, Florida
With hundreds of freshwater springs, the Sunshine State beckons divers inland from the ocean to gin-clear water at spots like this one in Central Florida. At Ginnie Springs, divers can explore the Ginnie Ballroom, Devil’s Spring System and the Santa Fe River.
Attersee, Austria
Visibility that pushes 80 feet is the lure for divers at Austria’s largest lake, where there are several dive sites and the water can often appear the same shade of turquoise as in a Caribbean postcard.
Cenote Dos Ojos, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
It’s name means two eyes. And you’ll enjoy having both of yours to take in the views of this cenote’s crystal-clear waters while diving in the open cavern called Barbie Line.

Rainbow River, Florida
With more than a hundred feet of visibility being the norm in this spring-fed river north of Tampa, it’s easy to spot fish, turtles and even the occasional otter while drift diving through waters that never get deeper than 25 feet.
Stechlinsee, Germany
One of Germany’s clearest lakes has low nutrients to thank for its exceptionally see-through waters. You can dive here in a bay near the picturesque village of Neuglobsow, with pike and perch among the fish often seen by divers.
