When it comes to sustainable seafood, the Monterey Bay aquarium thinks one company is the cat’s meow.
Sheba cat food is being featured by Seafood Watch, Monterey Bay Aquarium’s consumer-recognized sustainability evaluation program, for sustainably sourcing its food products.
“For the animals that we love its also very important for them to be eating sustainably because there is a large volume of seafood that is used in the pet food industry,” Karrie Carnes, senior manager of conservation and science communications for Seafood Watch, told Undercurrent News_._
Sheba produces 13 different seafood options for felines to feast on that use only farmed or wild seafood. Each option meets the Seafood Watch’s responsible sourcing recommendations. Seafood Watch’s recommended sources are based on science, peer reviewed and use ecosystem-based criteria.
MARS Petcare, Sheba’s parent company, has made this its latest milestone in an effort to bring change to the world and offer pet lovers a responsibly-sourced pet food product.
