How To Care For Your Mask and Snorkel

Keep your mask and snorkel looking brand new with these tips from our Gear Editor.

MASK AND SNORKEL CARE — BEFORE YOU DIVE
Inspect mask lens for cracks or other damage
Inspect the mask skirt for tears, cracks or damage
Check the mask frame for damage; make sure it’s properly in place
Inspect the mask buckles; look for damage or wear at the connection with the skirt or frame
• Inspect the mask strap for cracks or damage; pay close attention to where the strap wraps around the buckle
Check the snorkel for damage or wear; make sure the mouthpiece is properly attached
Inspect the snorkel keeper for cracks or other damage
Check that purge and dry-top valves are clean and undamaged

MASK AND SNORKEL CARE — AFTER YOU DIVE
Rinse mask and snorkel thoroughly in fresh water
Clean salt and sand from mask buckles and skirt creases
• Run water through the snorkel; make sure purge and drytop valves are clean
Inspect mask and snorkel for damage
Dry completely out of the sun before storing
