The latest limited-edition Citizen Promaster Dive release features two new dive watches with dazzling, iridescent dials inspired by the sea’s shifting colors. Combining the latest in materials and technology, these light-powered divers perfectly encapsulate Citizen’s commitment to sustainable innovation, everyday reliability and handsome aesthetics.
The collection comprises a 44 millimeter Promaster dive watch and a smaller 37 millimeter model. Both feature a stainless-steel case with a 200-meter (656-foot) depth rating, luminous hands and markers, a unidirectional rotating elapsed dive time bezel, a light-powered Eco-Drive Caliber E168 movement, and a special structural ink dial. The larger model has a more traditional case size, while the smaller watch offers a natural, comfortable fit for narrower wrists. The other primary difference is their color palette. The 44-millimeter’s silver-tone metal contrasts pleasingly against the azure dial and teal bezel. The smaller watch incorporates rose gold and silver treatments to complement the dial’s jewel tones.

The beating heart of the collection is Citizen’s E168 light-powered Eco-Drive movement. Eco-friendly and reliable, this technology originated in the 1970s, and Citizen has continued to refine and improve it since. The charging technology is passive on the part of the user and is compatible with all sources of light, from sunlight to fluorescent office lights and everything in between. Excess energy is stored, ensuring that a fully charged watch will function accurately and reliably for up to six months in complete darkness. Unlike traditional quartz watches, Eco-Drive batteries never need to be replaced. This makes for easy maintenance and eliminates the waste produced by regular battery disposal.
The Promaster divers in this collection both sport a striking, blue-toned dial that shimmers like the surface of the ever-shifting sea. It is made with a special pigment-free structural ink, which relies on its unique physical characteristics to refract light like thousands of tiny prisms. Colors shift and sparkle as the viewing angle changes, creating a living piece of art. The dial covers the rechargeable cell underneath and is translucent enough to permit light transmission for energy generation. Functional and fashionable, the dial is crafted of 100 percent recycled polycarbonate, further complementing the watch’s environmentally minded movement and plant-based polyurethane strap.
These two timepieces encapsulate the best of Citizen’s watches. They are beautiful, reliable and feature an inspiring commitment to sustainability.

50 YEARS OF ECO-DRIVE By the 1970s, quartz watches were mainstream. However, their regularly required battery changes meant there was a growing amount of battery waste. Coupled with this issue, the 1973 oil crisis opened the eyes of the world for the need to develop alternative energy sources. Inspired by these challenges, Citizen unveiled the world’s first solar-powered analog watch, the Cryston Solar Cell, in 1976. This concept was further developed and officially named “Eco-Drive” in 1996. Citizen has implemented Eco-Drive into a wide range of watch models, from rugged tool watches to elegant fashion pieces, and continues to refine its capabilities.
