World Oceans Day, June 8th, has come and gone. But as divers, with ocean protection close to our hearts, shouldn’t every day be a day to celebrate the ocean? Every tip from Project AWARE’s 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet highlights modern ways divers like us can use our passion to support a clean, healthy ocean every time we dive.

This month we feature tip #4: Protect Underwater Life.
Sometimes the actions we don’t take underwater can mean just as much as those that we do. As a diver you can protect underwater life by choosing not to touch, feed or handle marine life. Even things that don’t look like animals just might be living – and stressful interactions might interrupt natural behavior or provoke an unintended response.

It’s going to take a blend of support from everyday citizens, NGOs, governments and businesses working together to protect the fragile species and habitats we depend on for life. Will you join us in making every day World Oceans Day? Take the 10 Tips for Divers pledge and join the movement at projectaware.org.
