Cool Critter Of The Day: The Barreleye Fish

The first specimen of its kind to be found fully intact, this barreleye fish was photographed 2,000 feet deep off the California coast.

And while its transparent head (the green spheres are its eyes) are an obvious reason scientists (and divers) are becoming obsessed with this elusive creature. We love its stealth hunting technique: It steals food from jellyfish by swimming into its tentacles - the shields over its eyes protecting it from the stings.

It’s kind of cute too.
