Jay Clue
Hans Hass Place, Maldives
Many of the best dive sites in the Maldives are washed by currents. But divers can slow to a mild pace at this current-free North Male Atoll dive site, where overhangs are stuffed with purple sea fans and tropical reef fish, and there are small caverns where you can take your time poking around.

Rainbow River, Dunnellon, Florida
A gentle freshwater drift dive in this spring-fed river about two hours north of Tampa makes a great case for slowing down, soaking it in and enjoying the very lazy ride. Don’t be surprised if you get mesmerized by the swaying, dark green eelgrass all around and feel fixated by the beautiful play of sunlight filtering through the water.

Secret Bay, Anilao, Philippines
Take your time—and as many dives as you have time for—exploring one of Southeast Asia’s most legendary sites for muck diving. The sandy slopes of Secret Bay are the place to see things like rhinopias, whip coral shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish, seahorses and nudibranchs galore.

Mornington Pier, Australia
On the Mornington Peninsula roughly an hour’s drive south of downtown Melbourne, this easy shore dive is the place to slow to a crawl in the hopes of spotting weedy seadragons that dwell in sheltered waters among the seagrasses surrounding the pylons.

Baía do Sueste, Brazil
Slow to the pace of a land turtle to snorkel with green sea turtles and small reef sharks drawn to this protected bay on the southern coast of Fernando de Noronha, a beautiful island off the northeastern coast of Brazil.
