For more than 60 years, the vibe at Sunset House–the resort created by divers, for divers–has always been that when you’re here, you’re welcomed like family. So it makes sense that this go-to spot remains one of the top picks for families, as well as dive groups and even solo travelers who want to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
Sunset House is located on Grand Cayman, a safe Caribbean island known for unbeatable underwater visibility, abundant marine life, the famous Kittiwake artificial reef, wall diving and shore diving. The resort sits less than a mile south of George Town, making it conveniently located, but also relaxed.
This 30-room property has it all onsite. There’s the PADI Five Star Sunset Divers, which offers daily boat dives and two trips a week to the Kittiwake. Guests and locals alike enjoy the award-winning oceanside My Bar. There’s also the Sea Harvest restaurant, freshwater swimming pool, a shallow ocean pool and a gift shop.

Sunset Divers runs a daily two-tank morning boat trip and an afternoon trip when prebooked. Some divers like to pack in as many dives in a trip, choosing morning boat dives followed by afternoon shore diving, and night diving. Dive packages include unlimited tanks on the days with booked boat diving. Some divers opt for all boat dives. Many families choose the morning dive boat, then take the afternoon to explore the Crystal Caves, tour the Cayman Turtle Center or take the free shuttle to the nearby Smith Cove to play on a white-sand beach. The daily shuttle also runs to George Town, allowing guests to shop and explore.
Right off shore is the house reef. Before you reach the ocean, there’s the sea pool, a man-made lagoon with small sea walls that opens to the ocean and offers gentle waters ideal for divers and snorkelers to get comfortable with gear or take a dive certification course. Sunset Divers teaches everything from Discover Scuba Diving–the “try scuba” experience–all the way to instructor. They offer nitrox courses, photography lessons and more.

The reef in front of the resort starts at 10 feet. Even in these incredibly shallow waters, divers and snorkelers can see iconic fish and macro life. The area plateaus at 40 feet, giving everyone, from photographers to scuba students, a big playground. From here, there’s another drop to 60 feet. Past this, the depth is well past 100 feet.
Sunset House offers four categories of room: courtyard view, ocean view, oceanview suite and oceanview apartment. All have been recently updated, offering a bright, modern and clean feel, with in-room Wi-Fi, coffee machine and a mini-fridge. It’s everything guests need to relax, recharge and be ready for another day of diving and exploring.
Free Gear Rental for Kids
When two adults book a minimum of five days of boat diving, they get free gear rental – dive computer included – for divers ages 18 and younger.
