This exciting new accessory builds upon Garmin’s SubWave sonar technology and bridges the gap between surface and underwater communication. Divers using a compatible dive computer paired with a Descent T2 transceiver will enjoy a greatly expanded line-of-sight transmission range. Networked divers will be able to send two-way preset messages and view other networked divers’ tank pressure, depth, distance and direction from up to 328 feet/100 meters away. At the surface, topside users can connect to the buoy via Wi-Fi to communicate with, and monitor, divers via the Garmin Dive app. The buoy triangulates divers’ relative position using three transducers. This info can be used by divers to navigate back to the buoy and can be combined with GPS by topside users to track divers’ underwater positions. A single buoy supports up to eight networked divers and can run for up to 15 hours on a single charge. The buoy can be attached to a boat tag line or towed by a diver. It weighs 2 pounds and measures 8 inches by 5.3 inches.
