Scuba Diving Encounters: Diving Casino Point in California

COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closings are constantly evolving. There is no guarantee that the dive sites mentioned within this article will be open at your time of travel.

Casino Point Dive Park on Catalina Island is one of the famous shore dives in the United States, if not the world. The protected waters of this site are home to a wide variety of marine life, but also home to a specific variety of huge marine life—the black sea bass. These gigantic fish can grow up to 500 pounds and over seven feet long. The gentle giants gather around the Channel Islands from April through October to spawn.

In the kelp forests of Casino Point Dive Park, they are accustomed to visitors and allow divers to get close. Our ScubaLab editors got a chance to visit Catalina and check out California's most iconic dive for themselves. Check out the video for our encounter with some big ol' fish.
