Compared to the popular northern Red Sea dive sites, the southern Red Sea offers a more remote underwater safari experience.
Every reef swirls with schools of fish and bursts with vibrant corals. Whether drifting over a shallow plateau or descending a steep drop-off, the profusion of life you'll see is nothing short of spectacular.
This region of the Red Sea has a seasonal cycle of big animals: oceanic whitetips and hammerheads frequent offshore reefs at various times of year, while manta rays and even whale sharks are occasionally seen during spring and autumn. The Red Sea Aggressor IV staff curates itineraries based on seasonal patterns and conditions, offering two signature routes: one visiting Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef and Elphinstone Reef, and the other cruising St. John's Reef and Daedalus Reef.

The Brothers Islands: Walls, Wrecks and Whitetips
The Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone itinerary is defined by remote offshore pinnacles, dramatic walls and prolific big-fish action. The Brothers Islands—Big Brother and Little Brother—rise like granite sentinels from the depths. Surrounded by open blue water and energized by strong currents, these reefs attract nutrient-rich flows that bring in pelagic species. Off Big Brother, the wrecks of Numidia and Aida have transformed into thriving artificial reefs draped in coral growth. Little Brother features pristine coral gardens, and both islands offer excellent opportunities for divers to encounter oceanic whitetips, hammerheads, thresher sharks, and schools of jacks, tunas and barracuda.
Elphinstone Reef: Sharks, Coral Walls and Drift Diving
Sharks are also attracted to Elphinstone Reef like steel to a magnet. This long, narrow ribbon of reef rises steeply from the seafloor, its walls are adorned with soft corals, sea fans, gorgonians, and black corals that create a vibrant backdrop for drift dives. Highlights often include oceanic whitetips, hammerheads, grey reefs and large schools of barracuda.
Vacation Vibe:
Adrenaline meets awe—dolphin pods, oceanic whitetips, bluewater drop-offs, a remote underwater wilderness and horizons ablaze at dusk.
Daedalus Reef: Hammers on the Blue
Daedalus Reef, crowned by a historic lighthouse, is one of the Red Sea's most iconic offshore plateaus. Beneath the surface, steep walls and open ocean exposure make it one of the region's most reliable locations to encounter scalloped hammerheads—often in large schools during peak season—along with tuna and rays cruising the blue.
Daedalus also anchors the St. John's and Daedalus itinerary. St. John's Reef is a vast network of coral banks and pinnacles renowned for diverse reefscapes and colorful corals. Divers drift along vertical walls, explore caves and swim-throughs, and encounter reef sharks, turtles and occasionally pelagics such as manta rays. The varied topography—from shallow coral reeftops to dramatic drop-offs—accommodates a wide range of diver experience levels.
