ScubaLab Testers Choice Dive Computers: Shearwater Perdix AI

The Shearwater Perdix AI won Testers Choice during ScubaLab's 2017 dive computer review. Learn why our test divers loved the Perdix AI in this video review.

I’m Roger Roy, the ScubaLab director. We tested the Shearwater Perdix AI dive computer. Selected as the favorite of more test divers than any other computer in our test, it was our Testers Choice for air-integrated wrist computers.

We tested it at the University of Southern California Hyperbaric Chamber on Catalina Island. We also tested it in the field at Blue Grotto Dive Resort in Central Florida. We put it through a series of simulated dives alongside other dive computers to gauge the performance of its decompression algorithm. We evaluated how easy it was to set up and use, how well we could see the screen in different conditions, and how well it presented important data during our dive.

The original Perdix was a favorite in our last test, so we were eager to try the new air-integrated version. Though we tested it in open circuit rec mode, the AI – like the original – has advanced capabilities like closed circuit and trimix, but it easier to set, navigate and understand than some computers with only the most basic functions. The two-button navigation is guided by clear menu prompts -- like “edit,” “change,” and “save”-- that helped the Perdix earn an excellent score for ease of navigation.

It’s as easy to read as it is to set, even with a display that’s packed with data. The nearly 2-inch wide screen lets you customize display colors, and uses yellow and red to get your attention when needed (warnings and alerts also are displayed on a solid inverted background for colorblind users). The display can be personalized to show additional info like time, dive time, PO2 and CNS level.

Effortless to read, simple to use but capable of any kind of diving you take on, the Perdix AI is our Testers Choice for air-integrated wrist computers.
