Wreck Diving on the Rhone in the British Virgin Islands

The wreck of the RMS Rhone is one of the best wreck diving spots in the Caribbean. Our editor got to visit this real-life shipwreck on a recent trip to the British Virgin Islands — you can check out her footage below!

The Rhone sank during the San Narcisco hurricane in 1867. After weathering more than its fair share of powerful storms the ship met its match when it was thrown onto Black Rock Point on Salt Island. The steamship exploded when water reached its super-heated boilers and sank. Today this wreck is a popular spot for scuba divers to visit in the British Virgin Islands. Because the bow and stern were separated in the explosion, it takes at least two dives to experience the full shipwreck.
