Seac DX200 Regulator Review: ScubaLab Best Buy

ScubaLab's team of test divers reviewed the Seac DX200 regulator for its 2019 regulator review.

We measured regulators’ ability to deliver air at a range of depths and breathing rates on the breathing simulator at Dive Lab in Panama City Beach, Florida.

We also tested regs at Alexander Springs in Central Florida with a team of test divers who scored them in 14 categories including ease of breathing, dry operation and comfort.

Seac’s glossy flagship reg looks outwardly unchanged since we last tested it. But it’s had some updates to its internal components. On the breathing simulator it took very good scores at all depths and breathing rates. But most noteworthy were the smooth, quiet breathing loops it spun out and its remarkably consistent breathing effort. Whether at 15, 25 or 30 breaths a minute, or at 132, 165 or 198 feet, its breathing effort never varied by more than a miniscule .03 joules per liter.

Test divers reported the same kind of smooth performance in the water, with the DX200 collecting very good scores for ease of breathing and dry operation in all diving positions. The smooth, effective operation of the breathing adjustment took the top score with an excellent rating, and the second stage was rated very good for comfort. “Hard to find anything not to like about this reg,” noted one tester, and indeed it was selected among the favorites of most test divers.

With solid, smooth performance all around, the Seac DX200 is our Best Buy.
